1. RAIL FENCE

Write the message diagonally (zig-zag), then read row by row.

Historically used in the US Civil War to send messages that looked like gibberish. It is a transposition cipher, meaning the letters are scrambled rather than replaced.

3. CAESAR CIPHER

A substitution cipher where letters are shifted by a set number.

A classic substitution technique used by Julius Caesar in Ancient Rome to communicate with his generals. While Caesar often used a shift of +3, the key can be any number, making it versatile but easy to crack.

6. MORSE CODE
